Quote of the Day: “What is called an educated person is often someone who has had a dangerously superficial exposure to a wide spectrum of subjects.” Thomas Sowell
A couple of items to discuss today. First up is an op-ed by Anna Zhang about an incident she had with some rude idiot on a Toronto streetcar – a reprint of the same article from the Toronto Star 10 days ago. Sorry, already read it.
And Heather Mallick is whining about the layoffs at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Yea, tens of thousands of energy sector workers are on layoff all across Canada and it’s “ho-hum” over there at TorStar, but layoff 100 university profs and it appears that the earth has stopped. She moans about the fact that a midwifery program was cut suggesting that this knowledge is essential in the north. A list of the programs that were cut are here: https://www.sudbury.com/local-news/black-monday-dozens-of-laurentian-faculty-staff-terminated-today-amid-restructuring-3624770 including Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Physics. But interesting to note that according to their undergrad calendar here: https://laurentian.ca/undergraduate-programs the following programs were not cut: Equity, Diversity and Human Rights and Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies. Yea – another good business decision by the school.
