Quote of the Day: “All the political angst and moral melodrama about getting ‘the rich’ to pay ‘their fair share’ is part of a big charade. This is not about economics, it is about politics.” Thomas Sowell
Lots to talk about in our Favourite Family Journal, as Sandy Baird used to say. First up is the Front Page article by Johanna Weidner about two groups of students at UofW and also UofG who are “working to combat misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic. Well, I’m glad somebody is – maybe they could have a quick chat with the PMO and Doug Ford’s office. The group from UofW has developed a website where you can enter information regarding COVID and it will give you an analysis of the likely hood that the information is correct. They are sponsored by the Statistical Society of Canada. Unfortunately, this website is not available to the public for some unknown reason – which I guess is kinda fair since it is privately funded. A bit strange but I guess that’s the status of it right now. The UofG group produced an infographic at OnionsDontCureCOVID.com. Sadly, this pamphlet looks like it was done in an afternoon by a bunch of 15 year olds. They graphic is available in various languages since: “Official government information is often only available in English or French and that language barrier means people will often turn to social media where misinformation abounds, or family members.” And… “It was something I was seeing in my community” said Lauren Chang. This project is sponsored by #RisingYouth that is funded by… wait for it… The Government of Canada. So, two things. First, just why are my tax dollars going to students who pump out cartoons about CODID-19 and just why are there, in this day and age, people who somehow think that a some what deadly virus can be cured by onions? Unbelievable.
The City of Waterloo, in an article by Jeff Outhit, wants to spend tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to turn the University Ave into some kind of amusement park or something… I’ve got two words that will kill this pathetic waste of money: “RIM Park”.
Joel Rubinoff interviews a bunch of people who spend their entire lives with their hands out looking for taxpayer support. “Proprietors of local art institutions”, he suggests. I called them “people who can’t get a real job”. Yea, while real businesses are going bankrupt by the tens of thousands, these guys are still around trying to grab my tax dollars. Pathetic.
Jeff Outhit has a piece today on the ION transit costs for 2019. The bad news is that it cost every “resident” in the Region (that’s babies, kids, everyone…) $132 – up from $95 before the trains became operational. That is just under a 40% increase for transit that almost no one used. It of course does not include the $1.5 Billion it cost to build this while elephant. No figures are available for the 2020 year because…. well, this is government. Yes – Sunlife and ManuLife and other companies that manage literally Trillions of dollars can get their profit statements out in about 5 or 6 weeks, but the Region doesn’t have a clue how much is cost to run their $1.5 Billion train set. How come???
Jenn Jefferys has an op-ed on the Insights (Huh?) Page today where she whines about having to take Journalism courses online from Carlton University. She claims that she is “Getting very little bang for my university tuition buck”. Well, first of Jenn, you are taking Journalism courses. Secondly, well, see my first point…
