Quote of the Day: “Extrapolations are the last refuge of a groundless argument.” Thomas Sowell
Bonus Quote of the Day: “As a discussion on the Internet grows longer, the likelihood of a comparison of a person’s being compared to Hitler or another Nazi reference, increases.” Godwin’s Law – Mike Godwin
I find that the references to Hitler, Nazis, and the new one – “Far Right” (whatever that means), have increased to such a degree that Godwin’s Law no longer applies to “discussions on the internet”. It now seems that the opening salvo of an argument against anyone or any movement or any position that the author disagrees with, now starts with a “Hitler”, “Nazi” or “Far Right” slander or libel. No need for “discussion” anymore. This of course, has been used by leftists (whatever that means) almost exclusively – just google “Trump Hitler” and 28 million links appear. It has now become so commonplace that almost no one pays attention to it anymore. Well, no one except for Humber College “Journalism” Student Jesse Glazer that is. In an op-ed today (and also published in the Toronto Star), he takes MPP Randy Hillier to task for making a stupid tweet on 01 April about Ford and the new lockdown, In his tweet, he includes a picture of Hitler. Oh my. How terrible. This of course, started a blitzkrieg (ummm… can I use this analogy? Better ping Glazer before I do…) of negative comments from all the politically correct people – including Mr. Glazer. Now, does Glazer really think that there Hillier is making a direct, one to one comparison between Hitler and Ford? Really? And is Glazer really going to write op-eds every time someone does a Godwin? He’s going to be a very busy boy…
Scott Morton Ninomiya has got some nonsensical op-ed on the Insight (Huh?) Page today where is suggests that the faster the Region of Waterloo drives ourselves back to the stone age, the greater our GDP will be, or something…
